Telecommunications Equipment Operator

Monitors and operates the SSTV System. Time lapse tape recorder, multiplexor transmitters/receiver which are utilized to pan-tilt and zoom the surveillance cameras located in specific areas at the medical center, video monitoring devices, motion detector alarms and sequential switchers. Must be knowledgeable in police operations. Monitors the radio communication system assuring that all messages pertaining to this medical center are received, documented and when necessary acted upon. Prepare the daily police operational journal, assuring that all information is recorded in the journal prior to the completion of assigned tour of duty. Responsible for the collection of statistical data pertaining to assigned shift that is needed for the completion of the daily operations data worksheets. Enter police related date in the Service computer. Plans, directs, and coordinates all police assignments by dispatching appropriate supervisory personnel and vehicle to meet the job requirements in a timely manner. Assign police personnel through the supervisor to respond to calls for assistance or service on a priority basis in accordance with established rules and procedures. Receives all incoming telephone calls requesting police assistance or service. Monitors the intrusion/panic alarm panels at the police office. When necessary, shall issue vehicle decals to employees and assure that all vehicles registration procedures are followed. Other duties as required.Work Schedule:

Experience:
One year equivalent to at least the GS-4 level. Specialized experience in the context of this position is defined as experience monitoring the SSTV System, monitoring radio communication system, preparing daily police operational journal, entering police related data into computer; plans, directs, and coordinates all police assignment by dispatching appropriate supervisory personnel and vehicles to meet the job requirements in a timely manner. Receive incoming telephone calls requesting police assistance or service. Documents nature of call, name of caller, phone number and time received. Evaluate and determine the nature of the call and when necessary refer incoming calls to appropriate personnel that would handle the matter, i.e. service chief, shift supervisor-detective, etc. OR Education:
Four (4) years above high school. Successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable at grades GS-3 through GS-5 for all positions except Reporting Stenographer, GS-5. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. Experience:
Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at grade GS-5. GS-5, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION. As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position. Long period of sitting while monitoring the SSTV system, receiving telephone calls and operating the police communication system. Work Environment:
Incumbent activities occur in the police communication office at the police station. Incumbent will adhere to all safety procedures and regulations relating to the work environment. As determined by management, incumbent could be assigned to work any of the established tours of duty (3 shifts per day) and is subject to periodic rotation of shifts and working on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
