Physical Security Specialist

The Physical Security Specialist (PSS) supports the programming and installation of a large automated physical access control and intrusion detection system application. You will program various devices configured to operate with various programs and manufacturers. Troubleshoot various device malfunctions and evaluate and resolve the system malfunction. Self performs and manages the installation of intrusion detection, access control, CCTV and data communication systems. Assists System Engineers with installation plans. Assists in site surveys. Assists in developing cost estimates and procuring equipment and installation materials. Conducts comprehensive alarm testing in compliance with VA standards and records all efforts for inspection by external agencies. Initiates work orders to correct any discrepancies. Incumbent will have technical authority over the VA Physical Security program for VASNHCS and affiliated CBOC's. Will develop plans, policies and procedures to provide the Medical Center Operating Services the capability to effectively identify and fulfill national security, homeland security and internal VA physical security requirements. Conducts security, vulnerability, and risk surveys and reviews analysis of pertinent security vulnerability data, to include threat/risk assessment and management data, and recommends appropriate security countermeasures. Conducts Physical Security Surveys / Vulnerability assessments per guidelines established by OS&LE. Conducts comprehensive review and analysis of physical security plans, inspection and survey reports for compliance with existing policies. Incumbent will ensure the physical security plan creates a cooperative effort with the crime prevention effort by VA Police and compliments with little or no impediment of policing or routine medical center operations. Promotion Potential:

Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05 level. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07 level. Has assisted in creating and tabulating local crime data to develop statistics for use by local police entities. Must successfully complete the VA Physical Security Specialist course and any other VA mandated physical security related courses. Certification - Technical Training required. Installer/Maintainer Certification and Advanced Certifications required. General information technology troubleshooting skills and experience. Law Enforcement Training Center Physical Security Certification. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
