Health Technician

Authorizes and prepares routine and complex purchase orders for a wide variety of prosthetic and orthotic devices, medical supplies and durable medical equipment. Repairs leather, metal, plastic, and fabric components to artificial limbs and braces. Manages a procurement actions taken within the limits of this authority and is responsible for protecting the Government's interest on all transactions in which he/she engages. Administers small purchase orders that involve the use of instruments that are not firm fixed price (e.g. time and materials, labor hours, or other un-priced small purchase orders). Purchase appliances and manages the inventory for orthotics and prosthetics. Conducts routine physical inventory counts, updates inventory and keeps excess inventory to minimum. Ensures inventory locations are kept clean and organized. Work Schedule:

In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-06:
Has one (1) year experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the position. To be creditable this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level. Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge about the mechanical function of Prosthetic and Sensory Aids appliances; understanding of all types of disabilities, knowledge and skills in the fabrications of devices;, capable of working with metals, leather, plastics, fabrics, and other materials; reads and understands prescriptions and orthotic procedures to undertake the fitting of orthotic appliances; having a basic understanding of troubleshooting/repairing of equipment; cognizant with medical terms used to prescribe/describe the equipment and the sources; capable of utilizing computer software programs, required in order to complete patient processing in Prosthetics (i.e. Prosthetic Inventory Package (PIP); Prosthetic National Computer Package, and computer program for updating demographic data and scheduling patients), to include inventory maintenance, supply accountability regulations, warehousing procedures, and safety regulations regarding storage of equipment and supplies. NOTE:
A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE GS-06:
Has one-half year (nine (9) semester hours) of graduate education or an internship in a field that is directly related to this position? This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE GS-06:

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
